Named for the birth year of the league’s founders in 1983, the Babes are entering our 41st Season of softball in Solon. This year, nine teams of players 65 or older take the field of the community softball diamonds for nine innings of softball, each team playing about 32 regular season games per year.
Each season begins in early May after the managers get together to draft new teams. Games are played at Solon Community Park. In a given week, each team will generally play two games over a three day period. Additional games are scheduled to play exhibition and/or charity games at historic League Park, at our annual Memorial celebration remembering past players, during Solon Home Days Celebration, tournaments and our Annual All-Star Game in August. The Summer Softball Season ends in August with a competitive internal single-elimination tournament for all teams.
In September, we start our Fall league for those who just can’t get enough softball which will be played twice per week until the weather stops the games. Starting at the end of January through April, we feature the Babes Indoor Spring Training League at CAPS Fieldhouse in Valley View to keep some of our members in shape and ready for the following Summer League. In addition, we feature a Babes Bowling League in Oakwood that runs for 33 weeks throughout the cold Winter Months and weekly Volleyball games when Solon Community Center allows.
Co-Ed Bowling – Ten teams featuring around forty bowlers this year at Roseland Lanes in Oakwood, Ohio allowing for a fun and recreational respite from the colder months. Applications will be accepted for new teams and bowlers soon for the 2023-24 season
